Drawing of Wires, Rods and Bars Drawing operations involve pulling metal (e.g., hotrolled steel) through a die by means of a tensile force applied to the exit side of the die. Analysis and Design of the Extrusion Process Some semiempirical analytical techniques have been developed for computer-aided design of extrusion dies. However, these techniques are approximate and could be vastly improved by developing FEM-based computer programs for metal-flow simulation. In this article, a small-strain 2-D (axis-symmetric) elastic-plastic finite-element analysis was used to study this process. <Read in Full>
